Colposcopy and LEEP
If your Pap smear is not normal, a special test called colposcopy may be recommended. This involves looking at your cervix with a colposcope (a type of microscope) while you are in the same position as you are in for a Pap smear. During the test some samples, or biopsies, may be taken so your tissue can be examined directly. Depending on the results, you may be asked to return to the health center for LEEP (Loop Electro Excision Procedure), which treats precancerous changes on the skin of the cervix. Patients do not need a referral to a hospital for these medical procedures; they can continue their care at one of our local medical centers.
